Your Continued Care

Every patient and path to recovery is unique. Your care plan is always tailored to your specific needs.

Following your initial visit or procedure, your care team at Precision Orthopedics & Sports Medicine will guide you through whatever ongoing treatment is needed to alleviate pain quickly and speed your recovery. Our providers take a personalized approach to every patient’s continued care.

Diagnostic Testing

When indicated, your physician may order one or more diagnostic tests to better evaluate your condition and guide your treatment plan.

CT Scans

Non-invasive digital imaging used to generate a detailed three-dimensional image of internal structures of the body.

MRIs

Non-invasive medical imaging technique used to visualize the internal structure and function of soft tissues, joints, and organs.

X-Rays

Used to identify bone structures and detect pathology of the skeletal system, including fractures and joint degeneration.

EMGs

Electromyography is a technique for evaluating and recording the physiologic properties of muscles and nerves.

Once diagnostic imaging is ordered, schedule your appointment promptly. Bring any previous test results or films with you so your physician can compare them during your visit. Your physician will review and discuss findings with you at your follow-up appointment.

Follow-Up Appointments

Your physician will schedule follow-up appointments to track the progress of your injury or recovery and adjust your treatment plan as needed.

  • Attend all scheduled follow-up visits, even if you feel you are recovering well
  • Bring a list of your current medications to every visit
  • Note any new symptoms, concerns, or changes in your condition to discuss with your provider
  • If you need to reschedule, contact our office as early as possible so your care is not delayed

Non-Surgical Treatment Options

Many orthopedic conditions can be effectively managed without surgery. Your provider will recommend the most appropriate non-surgical treatment for your situation.

Physical & Occupational Therapy

Physical and occupational therapy are among the most effective non-surgical treatments available for orthopedic conditions. A customized therapy program can speed your recovery, improve function and range of motion, reduce pain, and strengthen the muscles supporting your injury.

Precision Orthopedics & Sports Medicine has Physical & Occupational Therapy centers in Laurel, La Plata, and Cumberland, enabling close coordination between your therapists and your treating physician.

Medications

NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) relieve pain, fever, and inflammation without the use of steroids. Common options include both over-the-counter and prescription-strength formulations. Take NSAIDs with food and follow dosing instructions carefully.

Corticosteroid Injections are used to treat pain and swelling caused by inflammation. Injections are typically administered directly at the site of inflammation and can significantly reduce pain and, in some cases, resolve the condition entirely.

When Surgery Is Recommended

If non-surgical treatments are not sufficient, your physician may recommend a surgical procedure to address your condition.

Surgical procedures are performed at our outpatient surgical facilities — Park Center Surgical Center in Laurel and Charles Regional Surgical Center in La Plata — or at area hospitals when inpatient care is required. Your surgeon will discuss which setting is most appropriate for your procedure.

Prior to any surgical procedure, your physician’s staff will walk you through the preparation process, answer your questions, and provide written pre- and post-operative instructions.

Frequently Asked Questions About Continued Care

Answers to common questions about follow-up care and treatment options.

Depending on your condition, your doctor may order X-rays, MRIs, CT scans, or EMG nerve studies. These tests help confirm your diagnosis and guide treatment decisions. Many imaging services are available on-site.
Post-surgical patients are typically seen at 2 weeks, 6 weeks, and 3 months. Patients receiving conservative treatment may follow up every 4 to 6 weeks until symptoms improve.
Options include physical and occupational therapy, anti-inflammatory medications, corticosteroid and PRP injections, bracing, and activity modification. Many orthopedic conditions improve significantly with conservative treatment.
Surgery is typically recommended when conservative treatments have not provided adequate relief, when the condition is progressive, or when there is structural damage that requires repair.
