Kirsten Poehling-Monaghan, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in Sports Medicine, knee, and shoulder surgery, as well as general orthopedics and fracture care.
She served as an Assistant Team Physician for the Philadelphia Eagles, Philadelphia Phillies, and Philadelphia Flyers professional sports teams, along with Villanova University Wildcats and St. Joe’s University Hawks. She currently holds the position of official Team Surgeon for multiple high schools throughout Montgomery, Charles, and Prince George’s counties.
Dr. Monaghan completed her Fellowship training in Sports Medicine at The Rothman Institute of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia and her orthopedic residency at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. During medical training at George Washington University School of Medicine, she received induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha honors society. As an undergraduate at Bryn Mawr College, she graduated with high honors and received the Walter J. Hume research fellowship award.
Dr. Monaghan specializes in sports injuries of the shoulder, knee, and ankle, as well as injuries unique to the female athlete, including patellar instability and ACL tears.
A Minneapolis native, she enjoys tennis, snowboarding, and spending time with her family, including her two young sons.
