About Roy Carls, MD

Roy Carls, MD serves as Chief Medical Officer at Precision Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. A native of San Diego, CA, he currently resides outside of Baltimore. He attended UCLA as a scholarship track and field decathlete, earning a BS in kinesiology pre-med. He attended medical school at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, MD, and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. He then completed a Foot & Ankle Fellowship at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, MD under Drs. Mark Myerson and Lew Schon.

Following his training, Dr. Carls served as an attending orthopedic surgeon at the National Naval Medical Center teaching hospital in Bethesda. His final Navy duty station was as team orthopedic surgeon at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. Prior to his surgical internship at Portsmouth Naval Hospital, he served as a Naval flight surgeon stationed with the Marines at Cherry Point, NC.
